Webbing is commonly used for tying slings and improvised harnesses. Pre-cut sections of webbing are normally color coded to make it easier to find the correct length without having to measure it when it is needed. The following colors and length are standard with most rescue teams:
- Green: 5 feet (1.5m)
- Yellow: 12 feet (3.5m)
- Blue: 15 feet (4.5m)
- Red: 20 feet (6.0m)
- Black: 25 feet (7.5m)
Tubular Webbing is a heavy nylon webbing woven in the form of a hollow tube. It is manufactured according to military specification MIL-W-5625. In addition to being used for tying anchor slings and improvised harnesses, a rope can also be passed trough the hollow webbing for use as a basic edge protector to prevent abrasion to the rope.
NOTE: Spools (92m/300ft) of tubular webbing manufactured according to MIL-W-5625 may contain up to three sections per spool. If ordering by the spool, the spool might not contain a single length of webbing.
